In order to be called Emperor one must control the Throne of Might – the central and most important point within each Realm. Thousands of battles have been fought for the privilege of the Emperor’s throne, because the one who sits on it can bask in all its mighty benefits that include personal military and economy bonuses and the right to enforce Imperial Decrees which apply to the whole Realm and all its rulers.
Once a player's "Claim to the Throne" is successful, they become Emperor of the Realm and a 3-day protection period begins. This is the time for the new Emperor to shine and enforce their Imperial Decrees. Although they varie between names and effects, all Decrees have a significant gameplay influence over the Realm:
Here are some of the most popular Decrees:
- - Tyranny - 10% of all resources gathered in the Realm are taken as taxes and the Emperor receives a cut. Trading Posts have -1 trade offer and Throne of Might attackers get -30% Army Attack.
- - Fearless Marches - Scouting is disabled. Spy Mission Speed is increased by 50%.
- - For the Realm - All players receive +40% Army Health while fighting Invaders from foreign Realms.
- - Redistribute Wealth - Gathering Speed is increased by 20%, but all resource tiles spawn with a random level across the Realm.
- - Faction Power - Marches may now contain 2 squads of Faction Units (of the same type). In addition, Faction Units get wounded instead of killed in battle.
- - Naval Expeditions - Mysterious encounters begin to spawn on water tiles. Those brave enough to explore them may find riches or battle dangerous foes.
