Roman Tkachuk, Monetization & Marketing Manager, has learned a lot during his journey at Gameloft.

He joined the QA team at Gameloft Kharkiv in 2010 and has taken on various roles throughout the years to be where he is today!

Learn more about Roman’s career evolution and some of the many game’s he’s worked on in our Ukrainian studios below!

Hi, Roman! Tell us about yourself.

Hello, my name is Roman, and I have been working in Gameloft for more than 10 years. I joined the Kharkiv studio in November 2010, but I now work in Lviv.

I’m the monetization and marketing manager for the games in our studio, which include titles like LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed, Dungeon Hunter 5, and My Little Pony.

I started my journey Gameloft working in QA on the amazing Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard. It was the hardest but also the most interesting time in my career. There were strict requirements, dozens of requests, a huge list of bugs… But at same time, a team that worked as one organism and a neverending flow of cooperation between everyone on the project.

After its release, I was promoted to game designer when freemium games started to rise on the mobile market and had the opportunity to work on the NFL Pro franchise, Asphalt 7: Heat, and Minion Rush. But one of Kharkiv’s biggest challenges was adapting Gangstar Vegas to this new model. Considering that the game is still active in 2021, I can say we did a great job!

I then moved to Lviv and worked as a lead designer before being promoted to game producer for Spider-Man Unlimited. Working on that project allowed me to expand my knowledge not only in technical aspects of the game creation but also areas such as risk, quality, time/budget, and human resource management.

After Spider-Man Unlimited, the Lviv studio became in charge of optimizing game development. Three teams were created and each one supported 3-4 projects. I was the manager for one of the teams before moving into my current role.

What is your role, what do you enjoy most about your job?

In 2019, I was promoted to monetization manager. Managing a team that didn’t have game designers and programmers was a totally new experience for me, but with the help of the team, we managed to optimize monetization for Lviv’s games and increase team size and the number of projects.

Then in 2020, I became in charge of the marketing and monetization teams in the Lviv studio. Almost all my team members are managers, so most of my attention goes to regular manager activities, such as schedules, scope, quality, communications, risk management, and resource development.

One of the things that I enjoy about my job is seeing someone from my team getting a promotion or being involved in global Gameloft activities and presentations.

What are some of your most memorable moments at Gameloft?

For me, it has been getting to know and working with different teams. All the teams I have worked with were groups of unique professionals who are really talented in their respective areas.

And of course, I love starting a new project with all the meetings, brainstorming, pitching... It is always so exciting since you are standing at the beginning of something (hopefully) big and new!

What advice do you have for people who want to work in gaming in a similar role?

I’ll give short but valuable advice—trust your team when making decisions, and of course, love the games.
