Retno Safinaeni, our e-commerce local deployment manager at Gameloft Yogyakarta, first joined us in 2019 because she was looking for a change and a new challenge. And as a gamer and tech-whiz, Gameloft seemed like a perfect fit!
Read on to find out more about Retno’s job and what she enjoys most about working at Gameloft and in the gaming industry.
Hi, Retno! Tell us about yourself.
Hi, my name is Retno, although I prefer people to call me Rere, and it’s my second year as an e-commerce local deployment manager at Gameloft. Previously, I was a front-end engineer and graphic designer specialized in the development of mobile apps, smart TV apps, desktop apps, and of course, websites.
I came to Gameloft after working as a technical project manager in a cyber security company because I thought it was time for me to make a change. I wanted a new challenge, and this job was a great opportunity to work on my communication skills.
Although I might not be a stereotypical gamer, I played a lot growing up and still do in my free time.
What is your role, and what do you enjoymost about your job?
I consider myself a bridge between the client and the local technical team. I communicate with the client to figure out their goals and work with the local technical team to deliver projects on time while managing lots of tickets and requests with my technical leader.
Communication is one of the most challenging and fun things about working at Gameloft. The chance to connect and have a discussion with people from all over the world and different cultures is something I’m very fond of. It’s great to have leaders, clients and teams from all over the world!
What are some of your most memorable moments at Gameloft?
When my team and I managed to deliver our first huge project together. It was wonderful seeing my newly formed team creating something of such high-quality in a short amount of time.
I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face that day when we deployed the update. It was a huge and proud moment, and I was absolutely overwhelmed with joy to see the team’s achievement.
What advice do you have for people, but especially women, who want to work in gaming in a similar role?
Go for it! Before you know it, you’ll get into the swing of things. Working in the gaming industry isn’t intimidating but fun and full of challenges. At Gameloft, you’ll find yourself growing thanks to people all over the world sharing their knowledge with you.
We have multiple positions available in Yogyakarta and our other studios around the world, and you can find all of them here! Stay tuned next week for another edition of Humans Behind the Game!
