Alexander Slavov, Creative Marketing Specialist, joined us a little over a year ago during the pandemic, and almost immediately “felt like [he had] found [his] place at Gameloft”!
He works with various team and departments to create new and innovative ads for our games, and he’s currently working on a new, exciting unannounced project by Gameloft Sofia!
You can learn more about him and what a creative marketing specialist does below!
Hi, Alexander! Tell us about yourself.
Hello, my name is Alexander but most people call me Sasho—this nickname is popular in Russia, but due to the strong bond between Bulgaria and Russia during the years of the Soviet Union, it became popular in my country as well.
I have 10 years of experience as a copywriter and creative director in the advertising industry where I used to work for many different brands and businesses. My work in advertising helped me get noticed by a Bulgarian digital academy that hired me as a lecturer on creative digital content.
I used to be a gamer a couple of years ago, but after the birth of my daughter (about seven years ago), my gaming life quickly faded. But I’m getting a bit back into gaming.
Other than that, I enjoy playing football and beach volleyball, and I’ve been playing a lot with my drone (which turned out to be an awesome toy) recently. I’m also a beer connoisseur—I’ve tried more than 1500 different beers!
What is your role, and what do you enjoy most about your job?
I’m a creative marketing specialist at Gameloft Sofia, and there are currently two people with this position at Gameloft: Alexandra Enache in Montreal and me in Sofia. As you can see, having an “Alex” in your name is a must-have for this position!
If we leave the (not-so-good) joke aside, a creative specialist works closely with the user acquisition managers, team leads, and artists in different studios.
If we go through the job description, the role is to develop innovative concepts for engaging, high-performing ads that will contribute to the growth and retention of the user base in Gameloft’s games. And not only that, but this also includes benchmarking as well as analyzing good practices on different platforms.
When I first arrived at Gameloft, I worked with the studios in Sofia, Bucharest, and Cluj, but afterwards, my role included working with our Argentinian partners from The Other Guys as well as with the studios in Budapest and Kharkiv.
I definitely feel like I’ve found my place at Gameloft. I love the world of advertising and have the freedom to create different ideas!
What are some of your most memorable moments at Gameloft?
I joined Gameloft during the pandemic, which is why I actually don’t have a bunch of memorable moments with my colleagues since I’ve spent 95% of my working time at home. But I still have one or two things that come to mind.
I guess my first really memorable moment was when Slavi (a user acquisition manager) started working on one of the scripts for our new, unannounced game. The cool part was that he was actually doing it with the Unreal engine, so I saw exactly how the characters would move, jump, roar... and I was blown away.
Another cool moment from my time here was when I saw the videos we did with an influencer for War Planet Online. Brandon (the influencer) actually flew to Bulgaria to try some weapons, including a flamethrower, and to drive a real tank and shoot with it. I was fascinated by the final result and the fact that such cool footage could be used for our assets.
What advice do you have for people who want to work in gaming in a similar role?
I’d advise them to be curious and eager to learn. Oh, and also not to become demotivated if not all their ideas work because the next best concept is just around the corner.
